PETALING JAYA: A former political secretary has been held for questioning by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for abusing funds belonging to a Government welfare programme.
Sources said on Tuesday that the man, who is a Datuk and former state assemblyman as well as former political secretary to a Minister, was questioned on Monday at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.
MACC director of investigations, Datuk Mustafar Ali, confirmed the arrest was related to a government welfare project.
“The man has since been released but investigations are still on going,” he said when contacted on Tuesday.
Mustafar did not want to reveal details since his officers were still probing the case.
A statement from the MACC confirmed that they have questioned the Datuk.
It is learnt that the MACC also seized 10 luxury vehicles belonging to the man, including a Toyota Alphard, Golf GTI, Toyota Vellfire and Toyota Camry.
The welfare programme comes under the 1AZAM programme, an initiative under the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry.
