KOTA KINABALU: Malaysia will not allow the remains of former Communist Party of Malaya secretary general Chin Peng to return to the country.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the government would also not allow Chin Peng's ashes to be brought back to Malaysia.

"The Malaysian government will not be involved in the burial of this former CPM leader and we believe it will be done in Thailand," he told the media here.

Najib said the Malaysian government had been notified of Chin Peng who died at a Bangkok hospital on Monday.

"Chin Peng will be remembered in Malaysia as a terrorist leader of a group that waged war against the nation and caused immeasurable cruelty to the people and attacking our security forces," he said.

"The communist terrorists, especially during the Emergency era, caused the deaths of thousands especially among our security personnel while thousands more suffered injuries and disabilities," Najib added.

"The people also suffered property losses when the CPM waged war against the government apart from economically sabotaging the nation," the Prime Minister said.
