KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had wanted a more open and transparent political system while he was in power, but he was not "unique enough" to fill in the shoes of his predecessor, said the co-editor of the book, Awakening: The Abdullah Badawi Years.
Prof James U.H. Chin said Abdullah, who is popularly known as Pak Lah, became prime minister at a time of transition.
