PETALING JAYA: Akhramsyah Sanusi (pix), the son of former Kedah Mentri Besar Tan Sri Sanusi Junid, says he intends to take on incumbent Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin in the upcoming party polls.
“I want to see the wing return to its era of glory where there was sincerity in struggle and unity in implementing the Malay agenda,” he told The Star Online.
He also said he was going against Khairy because so far, no one has come up to announce their candidacy.
“The grassroots have been asking if I am willing to contest the top post in the wing.
“After having intense discussions over the last two weeks, and after referring the matter to elders, I decided to throw my hat in the ring,” he said.
“I will be making an official announcement after a few other consultations,” he said.
Akhramsyah, who would be 40 next month, is a chemical engineer with a masters degree from the Imperial College of London.
Sanusi said although it would be a tough fight, Akhramsyah "has my full support.”
Akhramsyah is a member of the Bendang Baru Umno branch in the Langkawi Division, Kedah.
