GEORGE TOWN: Four suspected triad members are among 18 people rounded up by the police in various parts of Penang.
The four – in their 20s – were said to be from Gang 04 while the rest, including seven Vietnamese women, were nabbed for various offences such as having expired travel documents.
State CID chief Senior Asst Comm Mazlan Kesah said three wooden rods and batons were also found at the back of an entertainment outlet in Gurney Drive during the eight-hour operation.
“We also found several packets of drugs at an outlet in Upper Penang Road,” he told reporters after the operation ended at 3am yesterday.
Twelve gambling machines were seized while five entertainment outlets were issued with summonses for various offences during the operation, said SAC Mazlan.
“We also carried out body checks on some of the bouncers and customers to determine if they have gang tattoos or symbols,” he said.
In Ipoh, 15 people were detained by the state police for suspected gang activities under Ops Cantas Khas.
Perak police chief Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said so far, two suspects were found to belong to Gang 04 and 08.
“One of the suspects has a tattoo of a spider on his body and he will be investigated under Section 43 of the Societies Act 1966,” he added.
He said that during the operation on Friday, 420 people and 17 vehicles were inspected.
