KUALA LUMPUR: Two men have been charged with robbing the AirAsia X employee who died after she was run over by a car driven by a Good Samaritan who tried to help her in Ampang last month.
Unemployed Mohamad Faiz Amirol Mohamad, 22, and school bus driver Azizee Ishak, 25, are accused with gang-robbing Shahrinawati Abu Bakar opposite the Palm Villa City Garden in Taman Nirwana at 2.45am on August 29.
They were charged under Section 395 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum 20 years’ imprisonment and liable to whipping.
Both pleaded not guilty and claimed trial.
Even though Sessions Court judge Manira Mohd Nor granted bail of RM10,000 with one surety each, both did not pay the bail and were sent to the Sungai Buloh prison.
Earlier, DPP Nadiah Malek Fauzie told the court that the prosecution was not offering bail due to the gravity of the offence.
“This case involves public interest. As a result of the incident, the victim lost her life,” she said.
Lawyer Dony Abdullah, who represented the accused, said the court had the discretion to grant his clients bail.
