Ching claimed trial to eight charges at the Sessions Court. — Bernama
KUALA LUMPUR: Two former Silver Bird Group Bhd directors are accused of furnishing 15 false statements to Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad in 2010 and 2011.
Former group managing director Datuk Tan Han Kook and former executive director Ching Siew Cheong both pleaded not guilty to charges against them at a Sessions Court here yesterday.
Tan, 59, claimed trial to seven charges of knowingly allowing the furnishing of the false statements to Bursa Malaysia Securities at its offices at Bukit Kewangan here between March 29, 2010 and Dec 30, 2011.
Ching, 51, claimed trial to eight charges of permitting the furnishing of false statements to Bursa Malaysia Securities.
He was accused of committing the offence also at the bourse’s office in Bukit Kewangan between March 29, 2010 and Dec 31, 2011.
The charges against them were read separately before judge Murtazadi Amran.
The two ex-directors face a maximum of 10 years’ jail and a fine of up to RM3mil if convicted for the offences under Section 369(b)(B) of the Capital Markets and Services Act 2007.
The judge granted bail at RM250,000 in one surety for each man and set Oct 24 for mention. Tan and Ching posted the bail.
Securities Commission prosecutor Mohd Hafiz Mohd Yusof prosecuted while Tan and Ching were defended, respectively, by counsels Datuk K. Kumaraendran and N. Sivananthan.
On Dec 7, Tan and Ching had both pleaded not guilty to 134 counts of cheating Malayan Banking Bhd of more than RM67.4mil.
They were accused of duping Maybank officers by using false documents when applying for Bankers Acceptance facilities, inducing them to deposit the amount into bank accounts belonging to three other companies.
The two men were also charged with 134 alternative counts of using false documents when applying for these banking facilities.
