JAKARTA: A Merdeka forum will be held between Malaysia and Indonesia next year as a symbol of the close relationship between the two neighbouring countries.
Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said it would be held in August because both countries celebrate Independence Day that month.
Indonesia celebrates its independence from the Dutch on Aug 17.
“We can hold it in Kuala Lumpur as a joint celebration. Apart from that, we will hold a concert with artistes from Malaysia and Indonesia to reflect the Kuala Lumpur-Jakarta bilateral relations,” he said.
Ahmad Shabery was speaking as a panel member of the Kenduri Nusantara Indonesia Leadership Camp 2013 with the theme “Hope for Future Leaders” held here last night.
He said it was also prepared to organise programmes involving graduates in the region such as Kenduri Nusantara, adding that this was the best platform to produce credible future leaders. — Bernama
