KUANTAN: The Pahang Government will have a new multi-million ringgit administration complex in Kota SAS near here to help improve its public delivery system.
The first phase of the project involving 11.61ha of development would house a new state assembly building, the Mentri Besar and state secretary’s offices as well as other state and federal government agencies.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the project was another example of the Government’s action to cater to the needs and aspirations of the people.
“We want the people to enjoy a better standard of living and will continue to initiate measures to improve their well-being,” he said after performing the ground-breaking ceremony for the new administration complex in Kota SAS near here yesterday.
Also present were Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob and the Prime Minister’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
Najib said upon completion, the new complex would be an iconic symbol for the Pahang state government.
He added that the design would be based on the state logo and the complex would use green technology to preserve the environment and surroundings.
The Kota SAS project involves 607ha and is to be developed over 10 years, complete with a wide range of amenities.
Najib said he was confident the new complex would help enhance efficiency and productivity of civil servants, adding that the present state administration building was built in the late 1960s and was no longer conducive or economical for upgrading.
“When I was Pahang Mentri Besar in 1982, the building was already 15 years old. Now, it is more than 45 years old.
“So, it is time to construct a new complex in tandem with the changing times and to cater to the needs of the people,” he said.
Citing another example, Najib said that the construction and opening of the Pahang UTC in the Kuantan town centre had received tremendous response from the people.
He said an average of 5,000 people thronged the centre every day from 8.30am to 10pm to conduct transactions with government agencies.
“The centre has also generated opportunities for 50 traders and their business is flourishing,” he added.
