PETALING JAYA: The DAP has failed to give the 10-week notice to branch secretaries over the fresh party elections, says a sacked leader.
Therefore, the polls to choose the Central Executive Committee members should be declared null and void, said G. Asogan.
“It is clear in the party constitution that branch secretaries should be given a 10-week notice for new polls to be held,” said the former Bagan Luar branch chief.
“The party leadership announced in the media recently that they were going to hold elections on Sept 29,” he pointed out. “It is certainly less than a 10-week notice.”
Asogan was responding to the comment by Registrar of Society director-general Datuk Abdul Rahman Othman earlier this week that the DAP had still not notified the ROS on the date of the elections.
Special Congress steering committee chairman Anthony Loke said the party delivered the notification letter by hand to the ROS on Friday.
DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng had said that sacked members, who were delegates in the last party election, could take part in the fresh elections because the same delegates roll would be used.
DAP had to hold fresh polls because it failed to counter satisfactorily allegations of discrepancies in the elections last December.
Members had lodged a report with the ROS after the DAP leadership amended the results, leading to Lim’s political secretary Zairil Khir Johari clinching a CEC post.
Zairil was among 43 losers when the results were first announced on Dec 15.
Asogan called on the DAP to provide the list of delegates from each branch.
“Only the grassroots from the branches can help verify who the phantom delegates are,” he said.
Allegations of phantom delegates surfaced in a booklet “Equity Report: DAP Election Fraud”, written by one Father Augustus Chen.
