KUALA LUMPUR: Express bus operators will be allowed to charge passengers an additional 10% until new fare rates are finalised, the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) announced in a statement Saturday.
It said there would be no increase in fares for express bus services at the moment, but express bus operators would be allowed to continue with the 10% additional charges - introduced during Hari Raya and scheduled to end Sunday - until the new charges are announced.
The decision was taken even though the price of petrol and diesel had increased by 20 sen per litre on Tuesday.
According to SPAD, the decision was taken after scrutinising the operating costs such as fuel, wages and maintenance costs that will increase due to rise in fuel prices.
SPAD is currently in the final stages of studying the express bus fare rates, and will ensure the new fare will not burden the people and operators. - Bernama
