PETALING JAYA: Gangsters these days have become more violent and dangerous, if former gangsters are to be believed.
These “retired” gangsters said that while they believed in “gentleman gangsterism”, today’s young gangsters were going crazy.
Ghani (not his real name) said he was used to fighting but now, they make you “eat kacang”. That’s a euphemism for a bullet in the head.
Just years ago, initiation into a gang involved a drop of blood in a cup but now, the youngsters are asked to pull off a snatch theft, robbery or even drive a knife into someone before they can be considered as full-fledged members of the gang.
He also said that he and his friends used to sell drugs and get involved in “table talks” over turf disputes.
“Today’s boys are high on designer drugs and can go on for days without sleeping. They don’t even know what they are doing. That’s why they can kill and attack people so ruthlessly. Cutting off a hand or killing someone by repeatedly hitting him with a helmet does not bother them.”
The 08 gang, he said, used to have strict rules.
“Once you are initiated, we all become brothers. Therefore, my sisters are your sisters, too, If any gang member tries to get fresh with another’s sister, the whole group would light up a huge number of joss stick and burn a hole in the back of the offender. If he turns traitor, his thumb is chopped off.
“Gang O4 members have their induction by burning four joss sticks and branding themselves in the chest.”
Gang 36, he said, was the biggest Indian gang in the country now. “Most of its leaders are Indians. You won’t find many Chinese in the gang. They are also known as the Bob Marley gang, or the green, yellow and red gang.”
Student had no choice but to join the gang
Triads merging to become bigger
