No escape: In the 6P operation launched since Sunday, more than 2,000 illegals have been detained for committing various immigration offences.
PUTRAJAYA: The ongoing Immigration Department-led Ops 6P Bersepadu has revealed a shocking secret – an immigrant has been found to possess a firearm.
Immigration director-general Datuk Alias Ahmad said the discovery was made on Sunday when an enforcement team raided a construction site in Negri Sembilan.
He said when the team arrived, the immigrants fled and some were cornered at the bottom of a hill behind the construction site.
“A member of the raiding team approached one of them and he suddenly whipped out a pistol and pointed it at our man from very close range.
“Our officer backed off and the armed man fled,” he said here yesterday.
Alias said the incident was shocking as prior to this, they only found machetes and swords on the immigrants.
“I have instructed officers and personnel involved in the operation to be extra careful,” he said, adding that a police report was lodged on the incident.
On the 6P operations launched on Sunday to flush out unwanted foreigners, Alias said 2,586 illegals had been arrested so far.
He said Indonesians topped the list with 771 detained, followed by Myanmar (579), Bangladesh (389) and Nepal (243).
The others nabbed were from Cambodia, Vietnam, India, Pakistan, the Philippines, China, Nigeria and Thailand.
“Some of the Indonesians have been deported,” he said.
Alias added that the department had made a request to the Government to set up a temporary detention centre for 4,000 people in Selangor following the increase in the number of illegal immigrants detained.
