The offence under Section 302 of the Penal Code carries a mandatory death sentence.

The girl died at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital at 2pm Sunday after spending 11 days in coma at the hospital's paediatric intensive care unit.
The post-mortem, conducted by pathologist Dr Mohammad Shafie Othman @ Osman, determined that the girl had died of an abscess in her brain and septicaemia.
