KUALA TERENGGANU: About 250 Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) students got together to paint a 359m tablecloth with batik motifs in an attempt to promote Terengganu batik.
“It took them two hours and 20 minutes to paint the tablecloth and another three hours for the batik painting to dry,” said project director Nur Afiqah Mahisam.
“This is our way to promote Terengganu batik and the timing is also apt as it is Visit Terengganu Year 2013,” she said.
The project, which cost RM12,000, was partly funded by Noor Arfa Batik.
The students involved in the project were from the Office Management and Technology Faculty and the Art and Design Faculty.
Office management student Darina Danuri, 20, said her participation in the project had been a good experience for her.
She added that the students took about two months to plan the project.
The initiative by the students from the university’s Chendering branch will be submitted to the Malaysia Book of Records as the longest batik tablecloth in the country.
