IPOH: The five-year-old girl, who was suspected of being brutally caned by her mother, died of abscess in her brain and septicaemia, according to a post-mortem report.
The girl died at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital at 2pm Sunday after spending 11 days in coma at the hospital's paediatric intensive care unit.
The post-mortem was conducted by pathologist Dr Mohammad Shafie Othman @ Osman.
Arriving alone to claim his daughter's remains at the mortuary at 12.50pm, the father refused to speak to the media.
He sat with his faced buried in his face while waiting for the undertakers to prepare for the girl to be brought home.
On Aug 15, the father had taken the girl to the hospital. She had no pulse on arrival but was resuscitated.
The attending physician alerted police after noticing bruises and lacerations all over the girl's head and body.
Her parents were subsequently arrested. The girl's 30-year-old mother was charged with voluntarily causing grievous hurt and with child abuse.
The housewife pleaded not guilty to both offences. She is expected to be charged with more offences later.
