PETALING JAYA: The Registrar of Societies (ROS) should not allow the same DAP office bearers to conduct fresh polls for the party.
Sacked Jalan Bagan Luar branch chief G. Asogan said since the ROS had declared that it did not recognise the current central executive committee following complaints of electoral fraud, it was unacceptable for the same group to conduct the re-election.
He said the fresh CEC polls should be conducted by a neutral entity such as an independent legal firm.
“This is to ensure a clean, fair and transparent election,” he said in response to the DAP’s decision to hold fresh polls on Sept 29.
The ROS had on July 30 issued a directive to the DAP for it to hold fresh polls as it was not satisfied with the explanation provided by the party against allegations of irregularities in the first elections.
The DAP was embroiled in a controversy for changing the election results three weeks later on grounds of a “technical glitch” that enabled loser Zairil Khir Johari to secure an elected position in the CEC.
DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng had announced that the old nomination list would be used for the re-election and that sacked delegates could participate in the polls if they wished to.
Asogan said the DAP disciplinary board should first rescind the notices to sack them if the party was “honest” about offering the sacked delegates a chance to return and vote.
