TANAH MERAH: Four friends were killed when the car they were travelling in collided with another car at the 54.5th kilometre of Jalan Machang-Jeli near the intersection in Kampung Bechah Laut, Machang.
In the 4.40am incident yesterday, Fauzairi Mohammad, 22, who was driving a Perodua Kancil, lost control and veered into the path of an oncoming Toyota Hilux driven by former Kuala Besut assemblyman Datuk Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh, 46.
District police chief Deputy Supt Abdul Aziz Mahmud said Fauzairi and two of his passengers – Muhammad Fakhrunizam Ibrahim, 19, and Mohamad Hafiz Hakimi Mohamed, 24 – died on the spot.
The other passenger, Muhammad Noranas Nordin, 20, died at the Tanah Merah Hospital.
DSP Abdul Aziz said firemen had to be called to extricate the victims from the wreckage.
Nik Muhammad was not hurt. — Bernama
