GEORGE TOWN: A Myanmar national who had just started working here two days ago was found dead in a container at a scrap metal collection site in Jalan Siput Kepah, Tanjung Tokong.
Thang Shing Ling, 26, was said to have been attacked and stabbed by his roommates with sharp and hard objects after an argument.
A colleague checked on them after hearing a commotion earlier.
He was shocked to find Thang lying on the floor.
Police are now looking for his two roommates, also in their 20s, known only as Joe and Mai, who went missing after the 12.15am incident yesterday.
Thang was holding a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) identity card.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Gan Kong Meng said police recovered a steel rod and a knife outside the container.
“We believe there was a struggle between the victim and the attackers.
We are still trying to establish the motive of the murder.
“We have since recorded a statement from the employer.
“We are looking for the roommates whom we believe could help shed light on the attack. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
“Those who witnessed the incident should contact the nearest police station,” he said at the scene yesterday.
