MALAYSIA Nanban reported that a 16-year-old student committed suicide after failing to clear Class 10 examination in her third attempt.
Police said that she was depressed over her poor performance.
The girl had also failed in her supplementary examinations.
Coimbatore police said that P.Kayalvizhi, who was a student of a local government school in Madukkarai, about 50km from Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, had sat for the class 10 public examination in March and failed.
The girl went into depression and was sent to stay with her relatives.
However, she ended her life by consuming poison.
> Makkal Osai reported that the Karaikal district sessions judge N. Vaithianathan sentenced a youth to a life term for murdering a software engineer by throwing acid on her.
The judge also slapped a penalty which must be paid as compensation to the victim’s family.
If the youth, R. Suresh, fails to pay the penalty, he would have to serve another three years in prison.
It was reported that Vinodhini, an engineer employed at a private firm in Chennai, sustained severe burn injuries when Suresh threw acid on her for spurning his advances on Nov 14 last year.
She succumbed to her injuries on Feb 12.
