US Defence Secretary Hagel for three-day visit



KUALA LUMPUR: US Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel will make a three-day visit to Malaysia as part of his four-nation trip to South-East Asia.

The US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur said Hagel would be in Kuala Lumpur from Saturday to Monday. Details on his programme here were not given. 

After his visit here, Hagel will make a two-day visit to Jakarta

From Jakarta, Hagel will travel to Brunei, where he is scheduled to meet Asean defence ministers at their annual retreat on Aug 28.

The next day, he will participate in the Asean Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM-Plus).

He will conclude his trip in Manila on Aug 29 and return to Washington on Aug 30.

Hagel was sworn in as the 24th Defence Secretary on Feb 27, becoming the first enlisted combat veteran to lead the department - Bernama
