SUBANG JAYA: A woman escaped death when a crane arm conducting piling work for the LRT extension project collapsed on her car in USJ 2.
The woman, in her 40s, had parked her car along Jalan USJ 2/3 due to renovations being conducted in the front portion of her terrace house.
It is learnt that the woman, who had returned from a long distance trip, was in her house at the time.
A blackout occurred as the crane arm brought down power cables when it collapsed at 4.30pm yesterday.
Her vehicle was a total wreck with the roof badly damaged and windscreens shattered.
M. Periasamy, 62, who lives nearby, said he heard a loud crashing sound.
“I rushed outside and saw that a crane arm had collapsed on my neighbour’s car and my heart sank. Luckily, she was not in her car,” he said.
He said workers tried to hoist up the crane arm but were told to stop work until the police and Fire and Rescue Department arrived.
“This road is parallel to the Kesas Highway. Luckily the crane did not collapse on the highway as that would have caused a major accident,” he said.
The woman, who could not be reached, has lodged a police report.
