PETALING JAYA: A 51-year-old man died after chasing two robbers who snatched his girlfriend’s handbag.
The man and his girlfriend were returning from supper at Jalan Prima 10 in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, when they were ambushed by two parang-wielding men at 4.30am yesterday.
One of the robbers grabbed the woman’s handbag – containing a handphone and RM300 – as the car window was wound down.
The man got out of his car to chase after the two robbers.
He returned a few minutes later huffing and puffing without the bag.
As he slumped back onto his car seat, he began to have breathing difficulties and passed out not long after.
Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Zakaria Pagan said the woman, a Chinese national, tried to revive him by pinching his nose and performing CPR.
“Unfortunately, he did not regain consciousness. There were no external injuries on the victim, except for bruises on his nose from his girlfriend’s attempt to revive him,” he said.
ACP Zakaria said the case had been classified as sudden death, pending a post-mortem.
