The new E-Class is the best of all time, says Schlickum (below right).
KUALA LUMPUR: The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan models are expected to boost sales for the German marque this year.
According to Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Sdn Bhd (MBM) sales and marketing vice-president Kai Schlickum, while the first half of this year had been challenging, the second half should see stronger sales momentum for the luxury or premium passenger car segment.
“Before the general election in May, there were rumours about price reduction for cars and that affected auto sales. But now, the situation is much clearer, and we believe car sales will be stronger in the coming months,” said Schlickum during the recent media launch of the new E-Class at Majestic Hotel here.
In the first half of 2013, MBM sold 2,273 passenger cars with the C and E-Class models being the main sales contributors.
Schlickum pointed out that the new E-Class has sporty and dynamic looks, as well as generous equipment levels and innovative safety technologies.
“This is the best E-Class of all time. With the new E-Class, we are setting down clear markers in the areas of safety, design and efficiency,” he said.
Two locally-assembled variants are available, namely the E200 and E250 Avantgarde, which are priced at RM366,888 and RM405,888 (without insurance) respectively.
Both variants have new two-litre four-cylinder turbocharged BlueDirect petrol engines, fitted with a start/stop system and 7G-Tronic Plus automatic transmission.
MBM also introduced an innovative financing programme for the new E-Class, which aims to give greater flexibility for customers.
Called Agility Financing, it is said to be the first such vehicle financing programme of its kind in Malaysia.
