IPOH: Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah will not be defending his Umno Supreme Council member seat in the party elections or running for any other posts.
Ahmad Husni, who is also Tambun MP, said he preferred focusing on his work at the ministry.
"The world has changed. Due to the general election, the people too wanted change with Umno and Barisan Nasional.
"Many wanted to see new faces in the party leadership and it is time to give chances to the younger members to take over," said the lawmaker, who joined Umno in 1982.
"It can't always be the same old faces like me," he told journalists during his Hari Raya open house here on Saturday.
Ahmad Husni said the global economic crisis was not slowing down and he preferred to concentrate on the matter.
"The country needs to have stable financial structure to ride through the economic crisis.
"It is really challenging and I would like to focus on ensuring stable structures can be implemented under the Government," he said.
Ahmad Husni held the post of Umno party treasurer prior to becoming a supreme council member.
