Police rescue abducted clerk, arrest ex-convict

KUALA TERENGGANU: Quick action by the police led to the rescue of a Besut district council clerk after he was abducted by three men, about eight hours earlier.

An officer of the council saw the abduction at the council's parking lot at 6pm last Friday, and contacted the 32-year-old victim's father who then lodged a police report.

The victim was rescued about 1.30am the following day.

State CID chief ACP K. Manoharan said the motive of the abduction was to recover gambling debts.

He said a police team detained a 41-year-old man when he brought the victim to the latter's house to recover the debt before releasing him in Kampung Paya Rawa Besut.

Manoharan said the police recovered RM1,000 and the victim's car from the suspect who had nine criminal records for drugs, motorcycle theft and burglary.

"The man was released from prison three days ago," he told reporters here.

Police are tracking down three more people to facilitate the investigations.

They are Mohd Azril Nor Azmi, 33, Kamaruzaman Mohd Noor, 48, from Jerteh and Mohd Zulkifli Husain, 40, from Kuala Besut. - Bernama
