Cops deny Kuching prison break rumours

KUCHING: Sarawak police commissioner DCP Datuk Acryl Sani said the police have not received any report of prison break following a rumor on Facebook saying some 300 Indonesian prisoners escaped on Friday.

"We received no such report," he told The Star.

The rumor came about on Facebook after Kuchingites spotted a police helicopter hovering in the city skies for a couple of hours around 9pm Friday.

Apart from that, several police roadblocks around the city was also set up.

This added fuel to the prison break rumor.

"It is only our routine crime prevention operation," said DCP Acryl.

The source of the rumour was still unknown.
