KUALA LUMPUR: Padang Serai MP N Surendran wants Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek to be referred to Parliament's Rights and Privileges Committee.
Surendran accused Ahmad Shabery of misleading the Dewan Rakyat when he allegedly said that RTM was not biased towards any party.
"The Speaker will seek the views of the ministry before making a decision by Thursday," Surendran told reporters at the Parliament lobby on Tuesday.
The PKR vice-president was referring to Ahmad Shabery's written reply to him on July 9, in which the minister stated that the information presented by RTM (Radio Televisyen Malaysia) was based on news value and not biased towards any party.
Ahmad Shabery had said that for the first time in Malaysian general election history, political parties were given media access to explain their manifestos through the Government's official media channel.
"This decision is based on the recommendations made by the Parliamentary Select Committee on Electoral Reform," he said in the reply.
It was announced during the GE13 that the Opposition would have a 10-minute slot on RTM to highlight their election manifesto.
The move was slammed by the Opposition, including DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, who said the offer of just 10 minutes was akin to treating Pakatan Rakyat like “beggars”.
