KUALA LUMPUR: Many Umno grassroots members see the party elections at the end of the year using a new mechanism as a step towards more democracy and a manifestation of the political transformation taking place in the party.
Following amendments to the party’s constitution in 2009, Umno, with 3.3 million members, will be the first political party in the country to make its election process more transparent and involving more members at the grassroots level.
