Painting of merry old couple covered up to prevent accident at Chew Jetty

GEORGE TOWN: An artist who painted a mural of a merry old couple on the wooden exterior wall of a house in Chew Jetty here has whitewashed it, ironically because of its popularity.

Simon Tan, 48, said he decided to do so after receiving complaints from residents that the boardwalk at the alley might give way due to the many tourists who come to take photographs of the mural.
