Thai beggar gives RM100,000 to temple near Bangkok

A 63-YEAR-OLD Thai beggar, who suffers from polio and speech impairment, has donated one million baht (RM100,000) to a temple near Bangkok.

Nanyang Siang Pau reported that Aiam Cambhiranon, who has been begging at Wat Rai King (Rai King Temple) for the past 34 years, gave the money on Thursday.

It was the third time he had donated to the temple. The Saraburi native first gave 400,000 baht (RM40,000) to the temple in April 2011 and donated almost one million baht last year.

That second donation made headlines in Thai newspapers then.

Aiam, who has no family members, said he had been getting 3,000 baht (RM313) to 4,000 baht (RM418) in alms daily on weekdays from the public and 20,000 to 40,000 baht (RM2,090 to RM4,180) on weekends since his second donation.

> China Press reported that a six-year-old boy from Gombak, Selangor fell from the 17th floor of an apartment block and died.

Gombak district Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rahim Abdullah confirmed the case which occurred at about 4.25pm on Friday.

It is believed that the boy had slipped from the balcony while playing with his older brother.

He said residents found the boy in an open space of the car park. They called an ambulance immediately but the boy had already died.
