PUTRAJAYA: The Election Commission expects to issue the notice on its special meeting over the 13th general election by today, says its chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof.
He said the EC had received the writ of dissolution of the state assemblies from all but three states Selangor, Kelantan and Penang as at 3pm yesterday. Kedah is expected to dissolve its assembly today.
Selangor then delivered its writ to the EC in the evening, after Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim announced the dissolution of the state assembly yesterday.
Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat announced that the state legislative assembly was officially dissolved after an audience with Sultan Muhammad V at Istana Kubang Kerian at 11.48pm.
Abdul Aziz explained that once all writs had been received, EC secretary Datuk Kamaruddin Mohamed Baria would issue a written statement to announce the date for the special meeting.
The EC would then decide on the dates for nomination, advance and normal polling, among others.
He noted, however, that the EC had “pretty much finalised” its logistics preparations, having set aside a RM60mil budget to hire 71 helicopters and two fixed wing aircraft plus pilots to cover the entire country.
The amount does not include the 1,000 boats and four-wheel-drive vehicles that will be deployed for the polls, and the 230,000 people who will be engaged as election workers.
