New lease on life: Sarip playing with his grandson Wan Muhammad Rusyaidi Wan Rosli, nine, outside their house.
GEORGE TOWN: Retiree Sarip Dahaman once had difficulty carrying out his daily chores due to a heart condition that he did not know he had. But a successful surgery now has him living life to the fullest.
The 71-year-old can now ride a motorcycle to the market nearby and play with his grandchildren in the evening.
“I am so happy that I am still around for my grandchildren,” he said.
Sarip was able to lead a normal life again after a successful stenting procedure for two blocked arteries, all thanks to the 1MCA Medical Foundation.
“One day in October 2011, I thought my life had come to an end when I had sharp pains in the chest and was sweating non-stop.
“I was admitted to the coronary care unit for two days. Doctors told me then that I only had a 50-50 chance of living.
“But I survived and it was due to MCA for giving me the financial aid,” he said when met at his house in Jalan Maqbul.
Sarip said MCA was prompt in providing RM7,000 to pay for his stenting procedure that cost RM19,400 last year.
“It definitely helped to lighten our burden as all my four children find it difficult to make ends meet. They have their own families to look after,” he said.
