KUALA LUMPUR: Umno is appointing a local disciplinary committee representative in each of its 191 divisions to check elements of sabotage in the run up to the general election.
Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the representatives would be chosen among the seven elected delegates from each division to the recent general assembly.
“We will only chose representatives who do not hold any party position,” he said after chairing the Umno supreme council meeting yesterday.
He said the disciplinary committee representatives would serve as monitors, and immediately report elements of sabotage and treachery.
Najib also expressed satisfaction over the audit report on the state of preparedness of Umno election machinery at all levels, right down to the polling districts.
On attempts by certain quarters to sabotage Barisan Nasional's Chinese New Year open house in Penang, Najib questioned why they were acting weird. “We have never disturbed their programmes; why are they trying to obstruct us?
“They are acting weird, removing 1Malaysia posters and my posters.”
Najib said perhaps Pakatan Rakyat was sore that Psy (Korean singer who took the world by storm with his Gangnam Style song and dance) was attending a Barisan Nasional event.
“They could not get him, that is why they are criticising his participation in our event,” he said.
Najib said Pakatan said nothing when DAP did a Gangnam Style parody for its Ubah Roket Style campaign.
On former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's warning that PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim could still be plotting an uprising a la Arab Spring as he was hard up for the Prime Minister's post, Najib said the Opposition should accept the verdict of the rakyat.
“We are confident that the Election Commission is capable of holding a fair and clean election.
“We hope the Opposition would accept the election result, and not look for excuses to wreak havoc in the country if they do not win,” he said.
