CAIRO: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak says his visit to Gaza was not an attempt to interfere in the domestic affairs of Palestine.
Najib said the visit was humanitarian in nature and also meant to signal Malaysia's solidarity with the Palestinian people.
He said he had contacted Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas before departing for Gaza and explained Malaysia's position to the Fatah representative in Cairo, following his return to the Egyptian capital after visiting the Palestinian territory.
"We have clarified our position that this is a humanitarian visit and has no relation to any domestic Palestian affairs, especially the issue relating to the unity government between Fatah and Hamas," Najib told reporters here Wednesday before departing for Davos, Switzerland, to attend the World Economic Forum meeting.
