Mahmood Adam calls it a day

PUTRAJAYA: Tan Sri Mahmood Adam has been appointed as the chairman of the Public Service Commission (PSC).

He clocked out for the last time at the Home Ministry yesterday after heading it as secretary-general for three years since 2009.

A simple send-off was held at the ministrys lobby here, led by his successor Datuk Abdul Rahim Mohamad Radzi.

In his brief speech, Mahmood urged the ministry staff to always be on their toes and maintain the high standard of service offered in recent years.

We have been looked at by other ministries as an entity to be emulated. They have made the Home Ministry as the benchmark in terms of speed and efficiency of services.

We must continue to be the best in line with the people first, performance now slogan, said the 59-year-old administration and diplomatic officer.

Mahmood described his tenure at the ministry as the best in his career in public service which spanned 36 years.

Meanwhile, former Human Resources Ministry secretary-general Datuk Segarajah Ratnalingam has been named the PSC deputy chairman, reports Bernama.

Former senior deputy secretary-general in the Prime Ministers Department Datuk Zainol Othman, former director of Federal Statutory Bodies Audit Sector in the National Audit Department Boon Jon Lin and former Sarawak state administrative officer Isaka Kana were also appointed as members of the PSC.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Sidek Hassan said all appointments had been approved by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in accordance with Clause (4) Article 139 of the Federal Constitution.

All appointments are for a period of three years from the date of the oath-taking, signing of the oath of office and the loyalty oath, he said in a statement.
