KOTA KINABALU: The method developed by local researchers in the study of orang utan has been adopted by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
“The protocol developed since 1998 in Sabah is now part of the IUCN for Surveys and Monitoring of Great Apes and also Best Practices for Great Ape Tourism as well,” said Dr Isabelle Lackman, a primatologist and co-founder of a non-governmental organisation known as HUTAN - Kinabatangan Orang Utan Conservation Programme (HUTAN - KOCP).
