KUALA LUMPUR: Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Datuk Seri Noh Omar has filed a RM20mil defamation suit against the Selangor state government and Sekinchan assemblyman Ng Sue Lim over recent articles published in the state government's official paper, Selangor Kini.
Noh said the suits were filed following reports published in the paper, titled "Farmers call for Noh Omar to resign" and "Noh Omar betray farmers and swindles RM110mil for the farmer's aid."
"I decided to take action as nearing the election, the Opposition has returned to its old ways of spreading lies and accusing Barisan Nasional leaders of bribery.
"I took action as it affects my reputation as a Member of Parliament, minister and Selangor Umno Liaison Committee deputy chairman," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby here Wednesday.
The articles were published in the weekly edition dated Nov 25 to Dec 2 last year.
He said the suits were filed at a personal capacity and not as a minister.
"The suits were filed on March 9 at the Shah Alam High Court and the hearing of the case is fixed for March 22," he said.
