Cop's quick action nabs two cyber cafe robbery suspects

GEORGE TOWN: Quick action by a policeman stopped two robbery suspects from getting away in Sungei Nibong.

The policeman was, however, injured when one of several shots he fired at the suspects with his revolver hit his leg.

The incident occured when the suspects armed with parang rushed into a cyber cafe in Taman Perkasa at about 3.15am on Thursday.

It is learnt that the policeman, 25, happened to be in the vicinity and went to investigate.

While fighting off the suspects, aged 26 and 40, the policeman opened fire. One of the suspects was hit in the right leg and the other in the neck.

Apart from the gunshot wound, the policeman also suffered cuts on his left arm and leg. All three were sent to the Penang Hospital for treatment.

OCPD Asst Comm Gan Kong Meng said the one of the suspects has 19 police records.
