'Tame' crocodiles a tourist attraction in Sarawak

The appearance of "tame" crocodiles in Sungai Pagan has become the latest attraction in the district of Saratok, Sarawak. The riverbank has been turned into a sort of festival ground as curious locals and foreign tourists visit the site to look at the reptiles, which are known to be aggressive. It was reported that several small- and medium-sized crocodiles would consistently appear at the water's surface every afternoon since a chicken slaughterhouse started operating nearby. The crocodiles would wait calmly and patiently to be fed by visitors with food such as chicken carcasses. A local fisherman said they believe there are at least eight crocodiles in Sungai Pagan. "Sungai Pagan is known to be inhabited by crocodiles, but they has never attacked humans, especially fishermen who make a living here, because we have mutual respect," he said. A visitor, Razaal Uji, has suggested for relevant authorities to build fencing as a safety precaution.
