Foreign workers not tested for typhoid, says Fomena

Fomena, which is responsible for the medical screening of foreigners, admitted Wednesday that no typhoid screening was carried out on foreign workers entering the country. In fact, the infectious bacterial disease was not included in the agency's list of mandatory tests. Its president Datuk Mohd Hatar Ismail said Fomema had so far only followed instructions from the Health Ministry. "We have no problem including typhoid in the list but the cost would definitely increase, and that requires agreement from various parties," he said. The ministry confirmed Monday that there has been a spike in typhoid cases since August. Thirty-two cases have been reported in the last two months.

>Video of gang attack on woman goes viral, leading to arrest of culprits
A video clip of a woman in her 20s being attacked by a group of women accusing her of having affairs with a fiancé and ex-husband of theirs, went viral, resulting in their arrest. The victim was left badly beaten in the Kota Baru incident, and sent to Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II for outpatient treatment. A video of the assault was shared in social media, which led to police arresting three suspects on Wednesday. Kota Baru police chief Asst Comm Rohaimi Md Isa said another two female suspects were still on the run. The suspects were remanded for three days and will be investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code. Police found that the fight was actually triggered by a misunderstanding, on top of the accusation of cheating with two of their men.
