Four-year-old Nurdyana Mohd Zaini will be starting pre-school next year, but her mother is worried about it as her daughter was born without a nose. "I am worried that I couldn't be there with her. I am afraid that the breathing tube in her neck could come off and she will suffocate," said 35-year-old Lina Awang. Doctor had advised them to remove the tube and allow Nurdyana to breathe through her mouth instead of the stoma, which is a hole made in the neck for breathing purpose. However, her parents had rejected the suggestion after considering the risks involved. They hoped to see their daughter with a nose and to breathe normally like other children. "I am hoping that Nurdyana could go for plastic surgery to get a nose," the mother said. The family of five depends on the father’s RM1,200 salary and RM300 welfare aid, while Lina does odd jobs.
