Neelofa in hot water

Actress and TV presenter Noor Neelofa Mohd Noor, also known as Neelofa, 26, admitted that she wasn't aware about the non-halal status of escargots (stuffed snails) which she ate during a trip to Paris recently. She had uploaded a picture of the French dish and it triggered a debate among her followers in social site Instagram. Neelofa said she had been told that escargots could be eaten since she was a child. "If I know that its halal status is questionable, for sure I wouldn't touch it," she said. A Jakim spokesman has confirmed that land snails are not halal. According to the National Fatwa Council, it is 'haram' (forbidden) for Muslims to consume it.
