> Couple earns RM9,000 a month from begging
A couple who begs for living in Kulim, Kedah, were able take in as much as RM9,000 per month. The pair, a 53-year-old man and his 41-year-old wife, reportedly average RM300 in “donations”. The couple were among 11 individuals detained in an operation targeting beggars and homeless persons at the Pekan Kulim and Sungai Kob night markets.
> 'Floating' fish a cause for concern
The villagers of Kampung Delong in Dungun, Terengganu are concerned after scores of fish have been seen floating in the river near after a heavy downpour two days in a row. It was reported that fish of different varieties were caught over the two days. Strangely also the water of the river has remained clear although it is usually muddy after a heavy rain. Some of the floating fish were dead, while some were reportedly in a “drunken” state. Village chief Tengku Rosdi Tengku Hamzah said villagers would be lodging a report to the health department over the incident to determine if the water in the river is contaminated.
