Three children escape from abductor in Kota Baru
Three children, between nine and 13 years, were abducted by a 29-year-old suspect and held captive for 48 hours on May 23. They managed to escape after the abductor left them alone in a budget hotel in Kota Bharu.
It was reported that the suspect had invited the children - two male and a female - for a ride in his Perodua Viva and had promised to get them presents, including new clothes.
The children fell for it and hopped into the car and were driven to Rantau Panjang, a border town between Malaysia and Thailand.
Thinking back, one of the victims said they were lucky because the border was already closed.
When the suspect left the hotel room, the three victims fled and ran for about one kilometre before they were saved by police.
It is understood that the mother of one of the victims had lodged a missing persons report after the girl failed to return home.
Kota Baru OCPD Asst Comm Rohaimi Md Isa said a suspect was arrested and remanded for seven days to assist in investigation.
