A three-tonne whale that was trapped in a fishing net cast from a trawler off Mukah, Sarawak, tragically died after attempts to free it failed. Fisherman Ah Ping from Sibu, whose fishing trawler crossed paths with the whale, said he and his crew tried to release the animal but failed. They then decided to pull it back to the Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM) jetty to seek help. "It took us five hours to pull the whale back to the jetty. Once we reached, we tried to use a crane to lift the whale but failed, too. Due to long period of time in the trawler, the whale died," Ah Ping said.
> Taiwanese tourist first to claim GST refund at KLIA2
Taiwanese tourist Andrew Lee, 40, described his experience claiming his refund for the Goods and Services Tax (GST) at KLIA2 on Wednesday as fast and efficient. Lee, the first tourist to claim the refund at the Tourist Refund Scheme (TRS) counter, said the Customs officers were warm and friendly. The scheme allows foreign tourists to claim back GST paid on eligible goods that are to be taken back to their respective countries by air. "I did not expect to be the first to claim the tax refund for the shopping I did while holidaying here," he said, adding that he bought items worth RM2,800. There was not much activity at the TRS counters on the first day of GST implementation, it was reported.
