> Casanovas cheat three elderly women of over RM200,000
Three women, aged 65 to 80 were cheated of money by casanovas through the internet. The 80-year-old grandmother got to know a man who claimed to be from England two years ago. Her grandson Frankie, 32, said the man, known as “Smith,” was a sweet talker. Smith said he was a single father with three kids and would like to meet the woman in Malaysia. The victim banked in RM60,000 to an account in January 2015 but Smith had since stopped contacting her. The other two victims involved a 65-year-old woman who was lost RM50,000 of her life savings and an Indonesian businesswoman who gave RM276,566 to a so-called “Datuk”. Both cases happened at the end of last year.
> Woman assaulted with an umbrella
A woman in Miri hit a French woman three times on the head with an umbrella after a misunderstanding at a wet market. During the incident on Monday morning, the 44-year-old French shouted at a woman driver who was reversing her car in front of the Krokop market as the car almost hit her mother, 68. However, the driver, who came down from the car scolded the younger French woman before hitting her three times on the head with an umbrella. She also spit at her. She then sped off in her car. The victim went to the hospital for a check-up.
