Water levels in six dams nationwide drop


Water levels at six dams in five states recorded reduced water levels, some as low as 20%, due to the rhot weather. The water levels at Gemencheh dam, Negri Sembilan, decreased by 79%, while Mengkuang dam in Penang recorded a 65% drop. Water levels have also reduced in Teriang, Pahang (65.2%); Sungai Lebam, Johor (50.8%); Sungai Layang, Johor (43.8%); and Padang Saga, Kedah (47.2%).
 
SPAN chairman Datuk Ismail Kassim said the water commission has already suggested the state governments to find alternative ways to source for water to ensure sufficient supply. "SPAN will also consider to make several moves, including cloud-seeding, if the hot weather persists for long time," he said.
