A group of four armed robbers struck a goldsmith’s shop located in a hypermarket in Banting, Sunday morning, making off with an estimated RM400,000 in jewellery. According to a witness, one of the suspects fired warning shots in the air while another shot the floor. “I thought the four masked men were filming for a drama at the goldsmith shop. But I was frightened when they shouted before firing the shots,” the witness said. According to a police source, the heist took less than three minutes.

A maths teacher who reportedly caned five students has been transferred to the Ipoh state education department while investigations into the case are carried out. Perak state executive councillor Datuk Muhammad Amin Zakaria said the teacher had been asked to submit a show cause letter while the students involved have been sent for counselling. The teacher is reported to have admitted to the school’s headmaster and vice-principal to having caned the students.
