Husband strangles wife, attempts suicide

A 33-year-old man used a curtain to strangle his wife to death at their home in Bukit Ampang Permai on Sunday. After suffocating the victim, the suspect consumed poison but did not die. According to a source, the couple got married six months ago and were facing financial problems.

> Congestion at petrol stations in Besut
Although the flood waters have subsided in Besut, Terengganu, the people are still experiencing a “spillover” effect from neighbouring state Kelantan. It was reported that many motorists from Pasir Puteh, Machang and Pasir Puteh had flocked to petrol stations in Besut to pump petrol while ATM machines ran out of cash. This has prompted the locals in Besut to do the same, worrying that petrol stations would be out of fuel supply. In Jerteh, a petrol station has capped the sale of petrol to each vehicle at RM50. Sundry shops were reportedly low in stock as many were doing bulk purchases to donate to the flood victims in Kelantan.
